I wasn't able to attend Emma Berg's latest show, "Dress Rehearsal," on Friday night, but she was kind enough to let me drop by and snap some photos during a fitting with model Mary Cann on Thursday.

I love this collection. It's Emma at her finest: graceful draping, artful pins, tucks and folds. Each garment is its own mini-masterpiece, which was her intention from the start. She found inspiration in the idea of each item being one-of-a-kind, and from the Boys and Girls Club of the Twin Cities. Proceeds from "Dress Rehearsal" went toward the purchase of art supplies and musical instruments for the charity.

Speaking of which, it's hard to take photos in Emma's home/studio without capturing some of her vast art collection. As an occasional gallery curator and the founder of mplsart.com, her passion for art has clearly affected her fashion design sense. She doesn't typically make simple ready-to-wear; Emma's clothes are haute couture sculptures.

The grand finale at Friday's show was an elegant draped gown handpainted by Max Lohrbach (photo #10), who assisted Emma in the creation of this collection. I'm hoping this is the future of many collaborations between the two. Their styles are pretty different, but seem to come from a similar spirit.
