Hey.

I'm Mary. It's nice to meet you. This blog is a tiny space on the internet to document my musings on style, travel and culture. Enjoy!

My favorites from New York Fashion Week, Fall 2011, Pt. 1

This is gonna be a long one, so I'll break it up into two posts. Here's what I'm loving at the shows so far:

Jason Wu - This is definitely one of my top two or three collections of the season. I absolutely love it. The masculine influence, no-nonsense wide-leg trousers, delicate patterend blouses, belts with everything. Freaking rad.

Donna Karan - Now THIS is how you drape clothes. It's mind-blowing how beautiful a fold of fabric can be.

Derek Lam - Big billowy skirts are all I'm thinking about these days. Just imagine the movement these babies could stir up. It's what angels would wear while doing the backstroke in a sea of fluffy clouds.

Charlotte Ronson - She could beat me up; I just know it. This is true tough-girl style. No muss, no fuss. Looks like she just randomly picked clothes off her floor and threw 'em on. Except it looks perfect.

BCBG Max Azria - Long skirts are my jam. I like the relaxed styling, kinda slouchy. And everyone's been in a tizzy over these sheer turtlenecks.

Band of Outsiders - Love the layers, hip-slung trousers and messy belts. Welcome back, grunge.

Alice + Olivia - This is how chic and ladylike is done. The third dress pictured needs to be mine immediately. My heart aches just looking at it.

Jill Stuart - Hello, color! I love the vibrancy and joy in these prints. They look like the art deco paintings everyone's grandparents used to have hanging in the basement.

Norma Kamali - Let's close things out with a single bad-ass dress. This is the only Kamali piece I really liked. Poor shoe choice in the photo, but man. Just imagine coming across this dress on some random girl in the street. You'd be forced to genuflect. It demands respect.
